Accommodation for Environmental Sensitivities: Legal Perspective

The Canadian Human Rights Commission commissioned this research project to examine past legal assessments of accommodation for environmental sensitivities, including how third parties may be involved and the relevance of buildings codes and standards. This report concludes by providing descriptions of best practices in relation to accommodation of environmental sensitivities and principles of universal design.  This 44-page PDF is available for free download. hrcouncil.ca was created by the HR Council for the Nonprofit Sector (HR Council). Incorporated as a nonprofit from 2005 to 2013, the HR Council for the Nonprofit Sector (HR Council) took action on nonprofit labour force issues. As a catalyst, the HR Council sparked awareness and action on labour force issues. As a convenor, it brought together people, information and ideas in the spirit of collaborative action. As a research instigator it built knowledge and improved the sectors understanding of the nonprofit labour force.

Office of the Appeals Advisor on Workers' Compensation Matters

The Office of the Appeals Advisor (OAA) was established to advance the interests of injured workers and their dependants. Appeals advisors are all certified in Tribunal Administrative Justice, are specialists in interpreting and applying the Workers’ Compensation Act and WCB policies. They will walk you through the appeals process and act as your representative throughout. The OAA acts independently of WCB when representing workers and, whenever possible, they try to work directly with WCB’s customer service areas to resolve issues so that a formal appeals hearing is not necessary. There is no charge to you for this service.

Temporary Foreign Workers (Alberta)

This division of Alberta Employment and Immigration will help temporary foreign workers to learn about their rights and find solutions for problem situations. Booklets and brochures are available for employers and for workers. (Guide for Employees is available in 13 languages.) A walk-in office and a helpline are offered for assistance.
