AlterHéros

AlterHéros is an incorporated non-profit organization whose mission is to facilitate the social and community integration of gay, lesbian and transgendered youth.  The goal is to eliminate prejudice and discrimination, to improve the image of homosexuals and bisexuals, and to halt homophobia so that they can feel proud to be equal members of society.

Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC)

Founded in 1980, the Canadian Ethnocultural Council (CEC) is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of national ethnocultural umbrella organizations which, in turn, represent a cross-section of ethnocultural groups across Canada. The CEC’s objectives are to ensure the preservation, enhancement and sharing of the cultural heritage of Canadians, the removal of barriers that prevent some Canadians from participating fully and equally in society, the elimination of racism and the preservation of a united Canada.

Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women (IAAW)

The Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women is a non-profit organization that advocates on behalf of Aboriginal Women and is currently involved in many activities for the benefit of Alberta Aboriginal Women. The IAAW works to achieve social justice for Aboriginal women by: Researching and developing resource materials; Identifying opportunities to participate in policy development and decision making with the municipal, provincial, federal governments; and Challenging and eradicating discrimination of Aboriginal women.

National Council of Women of Canada

Founded in 1893, the National Council of Women of Canada is an NGO (non-governmental organization) whose mission is to improve the quality of life for women, families, and society through a forum of member organizations and individuals. Their website details current and past initiatives, including correspondence to the federal government as well as reports and press releases on a variety of topics.

Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC)

The Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) is a National Indigenous Organization representing the political voice of Indigenous women, girls and gender diverse people in Canada, inclusive of First Nations on and off reserve, status and non-status, disenfranchised, Métis and Inuit. NWAC works on a variety of issues such as employment, labour and business, health, violence prevention and safety, justice and human rights, environment, early learning childcare and international affairs.
