Canadian Council on Social Development

CCSD is a not-for-profit organization that partners and collaborates with all sectors (not-for-profit, philanthropic, government and business) and communities to advance solutions to today’s toughest social challenges. They are neutral, non-partisan, non-governmental and independent. Their mission is: Nation building through evidence, collaboration and design. The Canadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, which was founded in 1920. The CCSD mission is to develop and promote progressive social policies inspired by social justice, equality and the empowerment of individuals and communities. They do this through research, consultation, public education and advocacy.

Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA)

This website is produced by the Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA), an Ontario-based non profit human rights organization that has spent the past 20 years challenging the systemic barriers and discrimination that contribute to homelessness and housing insecurity. The goal of this website is to provide housing workers and advocates across Canada with information and tools to enable them to overcome – using a human rights framework – the barriers that keep people from accessing and retaining adequate housing.

Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS)

From Employment and Social Development Canada, the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) is a community-based program that relies on communities to determine their own needs and to develop appropriate projects. It encourages cooperation between governments, agencies, and community-based organizations to find local solutions for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The HPS recognizes that stable housing is a basic requirement for improving health, parenting, education, and employment.

Pivot’s mandate is to use the law to address the root causes of poverty and social exclusion. Pivot carries out its work through legal campaigns around policing, housing, and sex work that would result in meaningful positive change for people living in poverty.

Tamarack: An Institute for Community Engagement

The Tamarack Institute for Community Engagement is a charity which exists to build vibrant and engaged communities in Canada. Their mission is to engage citizens in inspired action as they work together on behalf of their communities to create and realize bold visions for the future. The Institute sponsors projects and provides learning resources, training, coaching and strategic consulting that enable people to collaborate and learn with and from each other.
